Candidate for 2nd Vice President - Andrew Craven, El Dorado County Probation Department
Greetings fellow CPPCA members! My name is Andrew Craven and I am honored to currently represent CPPCA as the Northern Regional Vice President. I previously represented the CPPCA Delegate Body as the Northern Regional Delegate Chair from 2002-2007.
For the last eleven years I have been employed by the El Dorado County Probation Department. During my eleven year career with El Dorado County I have worked in many assignments as an institutional and field deputy probation officer. In 2004, I became a Supervising Deputy Probation Officer. From 2004-2009, I was assigned to oversee my counties JJCPA program. In March 2009, after a ten year career working on the juvenile side of probation, I was assigned to oversee our West Slope Adult Supervision Unit.
I have resided in Northern California most of my life, growing up in Nevada County, located in the foothills of California’s Gold Country. Prior to coming to the field of probation, I had an approximate four year stop in Eugene, Oregon where I attended the University of Oregon. During my days as an Oregon Duck I studied psychology and political science and was fortunate enough to obtain a baccalaureate degree in both disciplines. Also during my attendance at the University of Oregon I met my wife Chi-Hsun (Cheryl) Chen who was an international student from Taiwan.
I have been married to my wife for eight years and we currently reside in Sacramento County California. My wife and I are pleased to announce that our first child, a baby boy, Sean Yi-Xiang, was born on March 9, 2009. Although this has been a substantial change to my daily life, I have still found spare time to attend CPPCA events and study Mandarin Chinese. Chi-Hsun and I, in our spare time, also make visits to our family and friends in Taipei, Taiwan and Montana, USA.
I have been honored to serve on the CPPCA Board of Directors as the Northern Regional Vice President these last two years. It is my goal to continue to grow CPPCA as a professional organization throughout the correctional professions. We are in an unprecedented era of significant change and downsizing due to the fiscal climate of our state. Over the last two years we have witnessed significant changes to our state funded local programs and significant downsizing to our state institutions (CDCR and DJJ). I envision that CPPCA will be a front-runner with shaping California’s future juvenile and adult community corrections. CPPCA is the only state organization the embraces cooperation and has a membership of probation, parole, and correction professionals. I am honored to continue my service on the CPPCA Board of Directors and appreciate your support. Best wishes to all and our future.
