Assistant Chief Probation Officer
Salary: $64,646.40 - $78,540.80 annually
Description:
The County of Calaveras is seeking an exceptional leader to assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, monitor and evaluate operations and programs, and recommend improvements where needed. The Assistant Chief will assume responsibility for a variety of personnel actions, oversee staff of all units of the department, research and prepare grant applications and assist in the budget process. The Assistant Chief will be responsible to act in place of the Chief when needed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in criminal justice, public administration or related. Six years of increasingly responsible experience in the field of probation with at least three years at a lead level or higher, equivalent to the position of Probation Unit Supervisor in the County of Calaveras is required. Must possess a Supervisory Probation Course certificate issued by the Corrections Standards Authority or other recognized entity.

Humboldt County is seeking a creative and innovative individual to provide leadership and direction for our Probation Department. The Chief Probation Officer is appointed by the Humboldt County Superior Court, with the concurrence of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and serves as a department head for the Probation Department. This position is responsible for the overall direction, administration, and coordination of the operations and programs of the Probation Department, including the County's juvenile detention facilities. These activities are carried out under the administrative direction, fiscal policy, and priority determination of the Board of Supervisors, and under the functional direction and guidance of the Courts. .
Minimum Qualifications: Desirable education and experience will include a four-year college degree with major course work in behavioral or social science, criminology, corrections or a closely related field and two years of management experience overseeing a large operational area related to probation or parole, corrections or related criminal justice system. Must possess appropriate STC, PC 832, First Aid and CPR certification and a valid CA driver’s license.
